Red Paddle Co Ride 10’6″

Red Paddle Co RIDE Review 1

My Viewpoint

Red Paddle Co. are the market leaders in technology, quality and performance. For over 10 years they have focused exclusively on building inflatable boards. The result are the best inflatable SUPs you can buy.

The Ride is the most popular all-around inflatable paddle board on the market. It has good balanced performance in the water. The quality and construction is as good as it gets. Red Paddle Co. boards are very durable making the Ride 10’6″ a great value.

And starting with 2020 models there is a 5 year warranty with product registration.

The Ride 10’6″ is unique in construction and design. It is a bit thinner than most inflatable paddle boards for better performance and an authentic feel when paddling.

It inflates to maximum 25 psi when the industry standard is 15 psi. So it feels very rigid and stiff. Flex in the water is the Achilles heel of inflatable paddle boards and Red Paddle Co. boards are among the most rigid.

Then there is the unique tr-fin configuration that give the Ride 10’6″ great handling and maneuverability.

Red Paddle Co. boards look smooth and clean. There are none of the minor imperfections seen on lower quality boards. Red Paddle Co. boards are so flawless that when inflated they appear to be hard paddle boards.

Everything about the Ride and other Red Paddle Co. boards says quality. There is nothing cheap here. The small details and features on the board like D-rings and handles are all high quality. And that includes the Titan dual action pump and travel wheeled backpack that are among the very best in the industry.

And with quality materials and construction comes durability. Red Paddle Co. is the only inflatable paddle board brand I know that has their own manufacturing facility.

The Ride has been tested and re-tested, tweaked and improved every year. It just gets better as Red Paddle Co. pushes the edge in technology. If you are in the market for an all-around paddle board you need to check out the Ride 10’6″.

Significant Features

D-rings

The Ride has six D-rings with a bungee cargo net on the nose. The cargo area is wide with plenty of room.

There is a towing D-ring in the nose.

Integrated with the towing D-ring is a Railblaza and RAM mount. So you can mount your cell phone, GoPro camera or fishing rod on the nose.

There is a D-ring on the tail of the board to secure your ankle leash.

Carry handles

Along with the traditional carry handle on the deck of the board is a carry handle on the tail and nose.

Deck pad

The comfortable diamond groove deck pad extends from the front cargo area all the way to the tail of the board.

Fins

The Ride has a tri-fin set up. Instead of the traditional combination of two fixed side fins and one longer removable center fin the Ride has three small fixed fins.

These fins are super durable and you don’t have to worry about damaging them when paddling in shallow water

Red Paddle Co. has tweaked the placement and angle of the fins over the past few years for best all around performance. The side fins have a toe-in angle for better handling in waves. The two side fins have also been moved back a bit and the center fin was moved forward for better tracking in flat water.

Construction

Red Paddle Co. boards are among the best constructed inflatable paddle boards on the market. They use what they call MSL fusion technology. A layer of pvc is fused to the dropstitch core. The entire process is done with machines developed specifically for this process. The benefits are as follows:

  • Better cosmetic finish
  • Lighter weight board
  • Stiffer at lower air pressure

The high density dropstitch core has been super reinforced. This allow higher air pressure- up to 25 psi. Red Paddle Co. recommends 16-22 psi. The higher air pressure means a stiffer, more rigid paddle board.

Another benefit of such high-density drop stitching is allowing the Ride to have thinner rails. The Ride is 4.72 inches thick. Typically a good paddle board will be 6″ thick. Thinner rails offer better performance in surf and moving water. Plus a better, more authentic feel of connection to the water.

The rails of the board also have two extra layers of taping for a total of four layers for more stiffness and durability.

Accessory package

The Ride comes with the Red Paddle Co. Titan hand pump. The Titan is a a dual action pump that pumps fast, smooth and efficiently. This is one of the very best hand pumps in the industry.

The travel backpack is another great Red Paddle Co. accessory. It is very well designed with more than enough room for the rolled up board and all your gear. Even enough room for extra gear like a wetsuit or pfd.

It converts into a backpack with comfortable shoulder straps and waist belt. The loading system is great, the bag opens in three places so it is easy to take the rolled up board in and out. There are wheels for traveling at an airport. And it is beefy enough to use as a serious travel bag.

Value

Even though you don’t get a paddle with the accessory package the Red Paddle Co. Ride is a great value. You get what could be the best designed and constructed inflatable paddle board on the market.

It performs well and looks great. And Red Paddle Co. boards are known for being super strong and durable. In other words you are getting one of the best inflatable paddle boards you can buy. The Red Paddle Co. Ride 10’6″ is an exceptional value.

Maneuverability 8 out of 10 stars (8 / 10)

Surf 7 out of 10 stars (7 / 10)

Construction 9.5 out of 10 stars (9.5 / 10)

Value 9 out of 10 stars (9 / 10)

Stability

The Ride is stable enough for a beginner. The 4.72″ thickness is the perfect combination rigidity and performance. It is thick enough to be rigid but not so thick to feel discounted from the water like you’re riding a cork.

Glide

The Ride glides and paddles easy for an all-around. It tracks a straight line well thanks to the tri-fin configuration.

It is not the fastest paddle board on the water but is plenty fast for most paddlers. Keep in mind this is an all-around sup and not the paddle board for a long distance paddle.

Maneuverability

The Ride turns and handles well. With its extreme rigidity and thinner rails it turns quicker then most inflatable SUPs. The fin set up also helps with maneuverability. This is especially true in surf, waves or moving water.

Best Application

The Ride is the ideal all-around paddle board for riders of any skill level. This board is great for beginners, slow cruising, practicing yoga, paddling workouts, small surf and slow moving rivers. It is a very family friendly paddle board.

This is not a touring paddle board. It is not the best choice for speed or long distance.

Great for the kids and even advanced paddling adults. There is plenty of room on the nose for a child or dog. And being nearly indestructible you don’t have to worry about a dogs nails.

The Ride is the most popular inflatable paddle board being made today for good reason and a great choice.
