Atoll Inflatable Paddle Board 11′

My Viewpoint

The 11′ Atoll Inflatable SUP is a very popular paddleboard, especially on the West Coast of the United States. It is a basic but well constructed board. It performs well in the water. It has a nice balance of stability, glide and handling like a good all around paddle board should.

Atoll Paddle Board headquarters are located in “Surf City” Huntington Beach California. The 11′ inflatable SUP board is the only paddleboard they sell. And it has proven to be a very popular paddle board.

The Atoll is minimalist, both in design and construction. It has a good mid-range construction with two layers of quality pvc and fusion laminate sealed seams. It is not a cheap board. Its construction is solid.

I really like the look of the military green Atoll paddleboards. And the buffalo logo is cool.

In the water the Atoll performs like a good all around paddle board should. Features I like are the sleek profile with a pointed nose for cutting through the water. I also like the 14 D-rings on the deck.

Many all around boards do not have cargo D-ring near the tail. The Atoll has 4 near the tail. 4 along the sides of the deck pad and 6 on the nose.

This is allows a nice setup for fishing. You can strap the fishing gear you use most often near the nose. Then you can strap a cooler to the deck pad just behind your feet. This cooler can double as a seat or, if the water is calm enough, you can stand on it for a better view into the water. Fishing off a paddle board is great fun and provides a unique angling experience.

With a universal fin box you can swap fins to change the performance of your paddleboard. Atoll is among the few paddleboards at this price range that have a universal fin box.

So the Atoll is a good basic mid-level inflatable paddle board. It has no glaring faults and most paddlers will be happy with it. It is lightweight for transporting making it a favorite with the ladies. Outdoor enthusiasts favor it for the cargo D-rings and balance of performance. And with a reasonable price the Atoll will continue to be a favorite with paddle boarders

Significant Features

D-rings

One of my favorite features of the Atoll are all the D-rings. There are 14 D-rings on the paddle board. 6 D-rings on the nose cargo area with a cargo bungee net.

Two D-rings on each side of the deck pad. This can be used for securing a kayak seat.

Plus four D-rings near the tail of the board. All these D-rings are great if you like to carry a lot of gear when paddling. The Atoll would be a good choice for fishing or camping.

Carry handles

There are two carry handles. One in the center of the deck pad and one on the tail of the board. I like the carry handle on the tail for pulling the board in and out of the water. With the handle on the tail you will be lifting the fins off the ground and protecting them from damage.

Deck pad

Nice comfortable diamond grooved deck pad that extends all the way to the tail.

Fins

The Atoll has a tri-fin set sup. With two fixed side fins and one longer removable center fin.

The fin box is universal which means you can use most aftermarket fins.

That is a nice feature. Fins make a big difference in performance. You could buy a touring/racing style fin for flat water paddling. Or you could buy a shorter, wider “river” fin for increased maneuverability.

Construction

Atoll uses good construction methods and materials. There are two layers of pvc which is standard for good inflatables. Atoll claims they are using the strongest yet lightest pvc on the market. They say their pvc is stronger than military grade. The pvc does feel thick and durable.

They use the fusion laminate process to seal the seams which saves more weight. The Atoll is very lightweight at 19lbs. Despite the light weight the board feels well constructed and solid.

Accessory Package

Everything in the accessory package is as expected in this price range. Atoll has improved this package over the years and I like the attention to detail.

The Atoll comes with a nice Bravo dual action manual pump.

The handsome three piece adjustable lightweight paddle is fine. Unless you are a serious paddler this paddle will be all you need.

Atoll has upgraded the backpack carry bag . It is beefier than the old bag and is now more of a legitimate airport travel bag. The shoulder straps and waist belt are padded and comfortable. There is also padding for your back. For the price it’s a pretty nice bag.

The package also includes a coiled ankle leash and a repair kit.

Value & Low Price

The Atoll is a good value in a mid-range entry level paddle board. This paddle board is basic but performs very well and is well constructed. The accessories are good for the price range. When you combine the price with good balanced performance and quality construction you have a board that is a very good value.

Stability

The Atoll is a stable enough for a beginner. For me the lighter weight inflatables take more time to get comfortable. And the Atoll was no exception. I noticed when I added weight (camping) it seemed more stable. With two layers of high quality pvc the Atoll remains rigid even with a heavy rider. This board can handle a lot of weight and still perform well. (I have loaded it to almost 300lbs) The stiffness and 32″ of width provide a stable platform for riders of all skill levels.

Glide

The Atoll glides well for an all-around inflatable. While it is not a fast paddle board, it never drags in the water. The Atoll glides well in chop or rough water for an all-around. The profile of the board is not boxy like cheap paddle boards. Instead the Atoll has a sleek almost sporty shape with a pointed nose and slight rocker.

Maneuverability

The Atoll maneuvers well for an 11′ paddle board. The sporty shape, tri-fin set up and lightweight allow the Atoll handle well.

Best Application

The Atoll is a good basic all-around paddle board. This is a very popular paddle board due to its balance of stability, glide, handling and reasonable price. This would be a great choice for many paddlers. The Atoll is stable enough for a beginner or practicing yoga. It is lightweight making it easy for a small person to transport. Yet it has enough float for a heavy rider. With 14 cargo D-rings the Atoll is a good choice for fishing or camping.
